Welcome to the Macclesfield and East Cheshire Branch of the BCSS.
Founded over 50 years ago, we are the local branch of the British Cactus & Succulent Society based around the Macclesfield and Wilmslow areas of East Cheshire. We are a friendly and enthusiastic bunch looking to promote the appreciation, study, conservation, propagation and cultivation of cacti and other succulent plants. Our members come from a variety of age groups and backgrounds and possess an extensive and diverse knowledge of this fascinating hobby, which we are always willing to share.
With few exceptions, we meet every second Monday of the month in Victory Hall, Mobberley, WA16 7JQ, for a prompt 7.30pm start (see events page). Our annual programme covers a wide range of cactus and succulent related topics. Most meetings consist of a talk by a reputable speaker illustrated with images and/or plants and split into two 45-minute parts. There is also a competitive table show, a chance to chat over tea/coffee and biscuits, and there are usually plants for sale. We organise special events such as greenhouse visits and exhibit at local shows.
Visitors to the annual RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park will have seen our regular exhibits, and preparations are already well advanced to extend our current, very successful record of four consecutive gold medals.
We have a webpage providing you with much fuller information. Visitors are always welcome, and membership is open to all. Please do come along and visit us.
Suggestions and offers of help are always welcome and can be sent to either Tony Leonard (Chair) agleonard@btinternet.com or Ann Martin (Secretary) secretary@macclesfield.bcss.org.uk
Welcome to our branch,
Tony Leonard (Chair)
